Aditi Ashok a Strong Medal Contender
Indian golfer Aditi Ashok is viewed as a formidable contender for medals at the upcoming Asian Games 2026, according to Manav Jaini, the director of the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL). He expressed optimism that both the men's and women's golf teams will secure medals at this prestigious event.
During a press conference held after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IGPL and Special Olympics Bharat, Jaini commended Aditi's achievements, noting that she is currently the leading female professional golfer in India. "Aditi is the top player among Indian women professionals; I firmly believe she is a strong medal contender. I also have complete confidence in both teams—if they perform to their potential, there is a significant chance for medals from both," Jaini stated.
Having previously secured a silver medal at the last Asian Games, expectations are high for Aditi as she prepares for the upcoming competition.
Jaini further endorsed the strength of India's men's and women's golf teams, expressing hope that both squads will bring home medals. "The Indian men’s and women’s teams participating in the Asian Games are exceptionally strong. I am very hopeful that both teams will achieve medal success," he added.
IGPL Partners with Special Olympics Bharat
At the event, IGPL and Special Olympics Bharat formalized their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing golf opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
This partnership will see IGPL assist in organizing the National Championship and improve coaching facilities in collaboration with the Indian Golf Union and the Professional Golf Association of India.
Professional Mentorship and Training
Jaini emphasized that this collaboration will provide special athletes with access to professional mentorship and training opportunities. "I believe special athletes will gain significantly as IGPL professionals will mentor them. They will have the chance to observe, learn, and play alongside these professionals. We also plan to have our professionals visit their training camps to interact and provide guidance," he explained.
Mallika Nadda, President of Special Olympics Bharat, highlighted that this partnership will enhance coach training, athlete development, and the inclusion of Unified Partners, which is crucial for boosting athlete participation and performance. "Through this MoU, IGPL will specifically assist us in organizing national championships. We will receive support for coach training, which is essential; indeed, coach training and subsequent athlete training are the two most critical components. Additionally, finding good Unified Partners is vital for improving our athletes' training and participation," she stated.
Coaching Camps and Grassroots Development
The partnership will kick off with a Special Olympics Bharat coaching camp scheduled from October 1 to October 10, 2026. Nationally certified coach Anup Singh will lead the camp, collaborating with both SO Bharat coaches and athletes to enhance their training and development.
Following the camp, IGPL will continue to provide qualified coaches for Special Olympics Bharat events, and both organizations will conduct regular joint coaching camps focused on athlete development, coach education, and establishing a clearer golf pathway for Special Olympics athletes.
Additionally, IGPL will organize a national championship specifically for Special Olympics golfers, where IGPL professionals will participate in demonstrations and play alongside the athletes. At the grassroots level, the partners will implement IGPL’s Golf On Wheels program across Special Olympics Bharat’s network of over 1,200 schools, introducing golf to children with intellectual disabilities nationwide.
