Yuvraj Singh's Mentorship: A Game-Changer

Abhishek Sharma, the top-ranked T20I batter globally, has shared insights on how training with former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has significantly influenced his mindset, particularly in high-stakes matches for the national team. Speaking on JioStar, he emphasized that his time with Yuvraj during the lockdown was pivotal for his growth as both a player and a person.

"Working with Yuvi paaji was monumental for me. He has been my idol since childhood. Although we had limited time together initially, the lockdown provided a unique opportunity for us to connect. I was fortunate to be among the few players he chose to mentor during that period," Abhishek remarked.

Focus on Winning Big Matches

Abhishek highlighted a crucial lesson from Yuvraj that reshaped his approach to cricket. He noted that the mentorship helped him prioritize performance in critical moments over merely gaining experience at lower levels. "When our training camp started, Yuvi paaji told me that our preparation was aimed at winning significant matches for India, not just playing a few games. His guidance instilled a vision for achieving success on the international stage," he explained.

Early Inspirations in Cricket

Reflecting on his early inspirations, Sharma credited his father and memorable matches for igniting his passion for cricket. Growing up in a cricket-centric household, with his father being a former Ranji Trophy player and coach, played a crucial role in shaping his aspirations. He also recalled how watching iconic matches, particularly India’s games against Pakistan and World Cup encounters, fueled his ambition to represent India. "Watching those matches motivated me immensely. I always dreamed of playing at that level," he added.
