ED Summons Abhishek Banerjee Amid Ongoing Investigations

Kolkata: Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress and a Lok Sabha member, is set to meet with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday regarding the significant cash-for-school-job scandal in West Bengal.

He is expected to arrive at the ED's office located in Salt Lake, on the outskirts of Kolkata, for questioning related to the agency's ongoing investigation.

The ED had previously issued a notice to Banerjee on June 3, instructing him to report to their office by noon on June 15.

Notably, Banerjee's name appeared in the charge sheet submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is also investigating the school-job scandal, although he was not listed as an accused. His name was included in the charge sheet from the ED's investigation as well.

Sources from the ED indicate that Banerjee has been called in again to help reach a conclusive understanding of his involvement, and his statement will be documented.

This interrogation comes just a day after he underwent an extensive eight-and-a-half-hour questioning session by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police concerning a signature mismatch case.

Additionally, on June 16, he is required to appear at the CID headquarters in Bhabani Bhaban, South Kolkata, for questioning related to an FIR accusing him of inciting violence and threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah prior to the recent Assembly elections in the state. The CID had served him a notice on the evening of June 12.

Banerjee has expressed his commitment to fully cooperate with any investigative agency, as he has consistently done.
