New Delhi, Sep 29: A head constable from the Delhi Police was reportedly attacked by a group of supporters from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) while he was recording the events during Arvind Kejriwal's visit to Tilak Nagar, as per sources on Tuesday.
As the head constable was documenting the proceedings, he was encircled by AAP supporters who allegedly assaulted him.
Following the incident, he underwent a medical examination, and the Delhi Police is considering filing a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the matter.
On the previous day, Kejriwal visited Tilak Nagar shortly after an incident where Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma slapped a young man during an inspection of a newly constructed road in the area, which was witnessed by AAP MLA Jarnail Singh.
During his visit, Kejriwal, along with Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh, Jarnail Singh, and other party leaders, inspected the road and criticized the BJP-led Delhi government for its construction quality.
He pointed out that parts of the newly laid road could be easily pulled apart by hand, alleging irregularities in its construction.
“This road was built just a few days ago, yet it is falling apart. We have never encountered such poor construction in Delhi. Previously, we heard of such roads being built in remote areas. Delhi is the national capital, and during our 10 years in power, we never allowed such roads to be constructed,” he stated.
Kejriwal emphasized that roads built under the previous AAP administration came with a five-year guarantee and called for an investigation into the alleged corruption.
“The roads constructed during our tenure had a five-year warranty. There is evidently significant corruption involved, and an inquiry is necessary to determine where the funds have gone,” he remarked.
Addressing the incident from Sunday, Kejriwal stated, “When BJP Minister Parvesh Verma visited Tilak Nagar to inspect the road, people pointed out the issues in his presence, and he slapped a young man named Sahib Singh. I want to remind him that this is not his father's country.”
Kejriwal urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to dismiss and arrest Verma and demanded an apology from the Delhi Minister. He also called for the arrest of those allegedly involved in the corruption.
In a related development, the Delhi Police filed a non-cognizable report (NCR) against Verma for the alleged slap during the road inspection. Additionally, an FIR was lodged against Jarnail Singh for allegedly obstructing public servants in their duties.
