AAP Protests Rising LPG Prices Amidst Global Tensions
AAP Legislators Demonstrate Against LPG Price Hikes
On March 25, members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest outside the Delhi Assembly in response to the escalating costs of LPG cylinders. During the demonstration, Atishi, the leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly, criticized the BJP government, claiming that Prime Minister Modi has surrendered to the United States, resulting in adverse effects for the citizens of India. She accused the BJP of failing to fulfill its electoral promises, specifically mentioning their commitment to provide free cylinders during the festivals of Holi and Diwali. Atishi suggested that the BJP's actual plan was to eliminate cylinders entirely to make everything free. She expressed that the people of Delhi are fed up with the BJP's governance, both in the capital and across India.
Impact of Ongoing Conflict in West Asia
The ongoing conflict in West Asia, now entering its fourth week, has disrupted trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz. Tensions escalated following the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during joint military strikes by the U.S. and Israel on February 28. In retaliation, Iran targeted Israeli and American assets in several Gulf nations, further complicating the situation in this crucial maritime corridor and affecting international energy markets and global economic stability.
Successful Passage of Indian LPG Carriers
Recently, two Indian LPG carriers, Jag Vasant and Pine Gas, successfully navigated the vital maritime route of the Strait of Hormuz. These vessels transported a total of 92,612.59 metric tons of LPG. Images captured show the Pine Gas LPG carrier crossing the strait. The safe passage of these ships was ensured by the efforts of 33 and 27 Indian sailors aboard Jag Vasant and Pine Gas, respectively. After completing their journey, these vessels are expected to arrive at Indian ports between March 26 and 28, contributing to the domestic energy supply.
PM Modi Calls for Unified Efforts Amidst Regional Challenges
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged both central and state governments to collaborate in addressing the challenges arising from the conflict in West Asia. Speaking to the Rajya Sabha, he emphasized the need for a united global voice to promote peace and dialogue, highlighting the disruptions to trade, energy supply, and security affecting millions of Indians in the Gulf region.
