AAP's Campaign Against Electricity Problems in Goa

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has ramped up its efforts against the Goa government concerning electricity-related issues. The party claims that despite paying for essential services, consumers are facing inflated electricity bills, accumulating dues, and frequent power outages. During a press conference in Panaji, AAP's national convenor Arvind Kejriwal highlighted the growing public anger over electricity problems across the state. He presented three key demands to the government: providing 300 units of free electricity to every household, waiving all outstanding electricity dues by June 15, and ensuring uninterrupted power supply 24/7.

Concerns Over Billing and Power Cuts

Kejriwal accused the government of issuing incorrect bills and penalty charges to many customers, while numerous individuals struggle with outstanding bills. He asserted that between January 2024 and May 2025, Goa experienced approximately 19,000 power cuts, indicating significant management failures in the electricity sector. Emphasizing that reliable power supply is a matter of good governance, Kejriwal urged the government to take immediate corrective actions to address consumer concerns. He warned that if their demands are not met by July 31, AAP would initiate a statewide movement on this issue.

Mobilizing Public Support

AAP legislator Venzia Viegas stated that if the government fails to act on their demands, the party will take the issue directly to the public. He called on youth and opposition leaders to join the movement, emphasizing that uninterrupted power supply and relief from high electricity costs are issues affecting every household in Goa. AAP Goa president Amit Palekar also criticized the government's handling of the electricity sector.

Demand for Action

He pointed out that despite paying higher tariffs, residents continue to face frequent power outages. Referring to recent protests regarding electricity issues, he noted that while the Chief Minister has made public statements on the matter, no official decisions or notifications have been issued yet. The party insists that consumers are seeking not just assurances but concrete actions. AAP reiterated its demand for immediate relief and improved electricity services throughout the state.
