Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par Receives CBFC Approval Ahead of Release

Aamir Khan's Upcoming Film Gets Green Light
Aamir Khan is set to make a much-anticipated comeback with his film Sitaare Zameen Par, which serves as a spiritual sequel to his acclaimed 2007 movie, Taare Zameen Par. This new project, which highlights the lives of specially abled children and features Khan as a basketball coach, recently encountered an unexpected challenge before its release.
However, after some uncertainty, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has officially approved the film, confirming its theatrical debut on June 20, 2025.
While neither Aamir Khan nor the CBFC has publicly commented on the specifics of the earlier dispute, sources indicate that the issue has now been resolved.
Reports suggest that the CBFC had requested two cuts from the film, which Aamir initially resisted, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the film's creative integrity. A source from a media outlet stated, 'The CBFC requested two cuts. Aamir Khan believes the film should be released without these alterations. He and director R.S. Prasanna have invested significant thought into the film, and certain scenes and dialogues are entirely appropriate when viewed in context.'
Aamir was anticipated to meet with the CBFC Examining Committee to discuss the matter further. The source added, 'Since Aamir Khan did not agree to the cuts, the censor certificate was not granted to Sitaare Zameen Par. He plans to meet the CBFC Examining Committee again on Monday to present his perspective. It is hoped that a resolution will be reached, allowing the CBFC to approve the film by June 16. Once this is accomplished, advance ticket sales can commence, as cinemas are prohibited from selling tickets without a censor certificate.'
Directed by R.S. Prasanna, the film also features Genelia Deshmukh and is a remake of the Spanish film Champions (2018).
