A Bizarre Incident in Mathura-Vrindavan

Mathura: Visitors to the Mathura-Vrindavan area, known for its temples, often encounter the playful antics of local monkeys, who are notorious for snatching items like glasses, caps, and food from unsuspecting tourists.

During a recent visit to the Thakur Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan, diamond merchant Abhishek Agarwal and his family experienced a shocking incident when a monkey grabbed his handbag containing jewellery valued at Rs 20 lakh.

Fortunately for the Agarwal family, after an extensive eight-hour search, local police managed to recover the stolen handbag, as confirmed by a senior police official.

The incident unfolded as Agarwal was heading back to his car after a prayer session with his family on Friday.

Out of nowhere, a monkey from a nearby troop lunged at him and snatched the handbag right from his grasp, which held diamond jewellery worth over Rs 20 lakh.

In a state of panic, Agarwal attempted various tactics suggested by onlookers, including offering food to the monkey, but to no avail. Eventually, he turned to the police for assistance.

Circle Officer (Sadar) Sandeep Singh reported that the police successfully identified the monkey and managed to encircle it.

After hours of diligent effort, they were able to retrieve the handbag and return it to its rightful owner, Singh added.

The local administration has been implementing measures to address the ongoing issue of monkey disturbances in the popular religious tourism area of Mathura-Vrindavan.
