Earthquake Hits Assam Early Morning

Guwahati: A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Morigaon district of Assam early Monday morning, causing significant tremors across the region. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake was recorded at 4:17 AM on January 5, 2026. The epicenter was located in Morigaon at a depth of 50 kilometers, with coordinates of 26.37°N latitude and 92.29°E longitude.


The tremors were felt in several districts of Assam, including Guwahati, Nagaon, and Kamrup, as well as in neighboring areas. Residents in the capital of Meghalaya, Shillong, and parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura also reported feeling the earthquake.
