Murder Investigation in Munirka, Delhi
New Delhi, August 2 - A 24-year-old man has been taken into custody in the Munirka area of southwest Delhi on charges of murdering his wife. The police provided this information on Monday. According to the authorities, they were alerted on Saturday that an individual had killed his wife and was seeking assistance from a friend to dispose of the body.
Upon receiving the tip-off, officers arrived at a location near Pal Dairy in Munirka, where they found the caller present. Acting on the information, the police apprehended the suspect, identified as Anurag, also known as Abhishek, a resident of Munirka.
During the interrogation, the caller revealed that he received a phone call from his friend Anurag on the night of August 1, urging him to come to his house immediately. Upon arrival, Anurag allegedly confessed to having a violent altercation with his wife and invited him to his room. When he opened the door, he discovered Anurag's wife lying on the bed in a pool of blood, with multiple injuries on her body.
The caller claimed that Anurag admitted to murdering his wife and requested help in disposing of the body. The police reported that the caller later retrieved his mobile phone from Anurag, who had taken it under the pretense of calling his family. After regaining possession of his phone, the caller informed the police.
Following this, the police proceeded to Anurag's residence, where they found the body of his wife, Kanika, also bloodied on the bed. She was transported to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. The police secured the crime scene and summoned experts from the crime team and the forensic science laboratory (FSL). A case has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at the Kishangarh police station.
Authorities stated that Kanika, aged 20, was a homemaker, while Anurag, also known as Abhishek, worked in delivery services. The couple had married in 2023.
The police confirmed that the suspect is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
