Yash Discusses the Depth of Ravana in Upcoming Ramayana Film
Yash Explores the Complexity of Ravana at Comic-Con
As excitement grows for the upcoming film Ramayana, actor and producer Yash, who is producing the movie through his company Monster Mind Creations, participated in Comic-Con to promote this highly anticipated epic. During a media session, Yash, who portrays Ravana, shared insights into the character's intricacies, the philosophical themes of the Ramayana, and the enduring relevance of its messages.
Reflecting on the narrative, Yash stated, "A compelling story requires the presence of both good and evil." He emphasized that the Ramayana is characterized by the contrasting paths of Lord Rama and Ravana.
Yash elaborated on their differences, explaining, "Lord Rama is born into royalty but faces circumstances that lead him to lose everything, only to reclaim his power through his actions and principles. In contrast, Ravana rises from nothing to great power, yet, as the saying goes, battling a demon can sometimes transform you into a greater one. Caution is essential in that regard."
This contrast, according to Yash, is what renders the tale timeless. While Lord Rama regains his status through virtuous actions, Ravana's narrative serves as a cautionary tale about how power, when fueled by revenge and pride, can result in ruin.
Discussing Ravana, Yash noted that the character possesses far more depth than a typical antagonist. "He has mastered numerous disciplines," he remarked, adding that despite his vast knowledge and skills, Ravana ultimately "fails to manage his power." This contradiction, Yash believes, makes him one of the most intriguing figures in mythology.
Yash also shared that his connection to the Ramayana dates back to his childhood. "It was likely the first story I ever heard. My grandfather would narrate these tales, allowing me to cultivate my own imagination around them," he recalled.
In preparing for his role, Yash focused not on reinventing Ravana but on grasping his mindset. "What can you contribute as an actor? What is your interpretation of the character?" he reflected. He credited director Nitesh Tiwari and the writing team for their vision, stating, "I aimed to comprehend what drove him to act as he did. The motivation behind his actions was paramount to me."
