The Central Government has clarified the e-KYC requirements for gas connections, stating that only customers with incomplete verification need to comply. Regular LPG users who have completed their e-KYC previously are exempt. Ujjwala Scheme participants must verify annually to access certain subsidies. The e-KYC process can be completed easily from home using a mobile app, requiring only an Aadhaar Card and registered mobile number. This initiative aims to enhance security and reduce fraud in the gas distribution system.

Clarification on e-KYC for Gas Connections

Recent discussions have emerged regarding the potential disconnection of gas connections for customers who do not complete their e-KYC. In response, the Central Government has provided clarification. The Ministry of Petroleum has indicated that e-KYC is only necessary for customers whose verification has not yet been finalized.

The government emphasized that this is not a new regulation. Through various social media channels, the Ministry communicated that this initiative is part of an ongoing effort aimed at ensuring that as many gas customers as possible complete their biometric verification, which is crucial for preventing fraudulent activities.

Who Needs to Complete e-KYC?
Regular LPG customers who have previously completed their e-KYC do not need to repeat the process. This requirement is specifically for those whose records remain unupdated.

For customers enrolled in the 'Ujjwala Scheme,' the rules differ slightly. These individuals must undergo biometric verification at least once each financial year. This verification is essential for Ujjwala customers who wish to benefit from the targeted Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) subsidy for their 8th and 9th gas cylinder refills within a year, following the receipt of seven cylinders.

Completing e-KYC from Home
There is no need for customers to visit their gas agencies to complete the e-KYC process. The Ministry has stated that this can be done easily and at no cost from home. Customers can utilize the mobile application provided by their gas service providers to complete the e-KYC. To do so, they will need their 'Aadhaar Card' and 'Registered Mobile Number.'
