Who Was Vikram Batra?
Born in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, Vikram Batra was the elder of twin boys, affectionately named Luv and Kush by his devoted mother. Coming from a family of educators, he was a sports enthusiast who evolved into a confident officer. Batra gained recognition during the Kargil conflict by successfully capturing the challenging Point 5140, famously declaring, "Yeh Dil Maange More" over the radio. This phrase, along with his legacy, would later inspire a film.

Point 4875 was a critical target, a glaciated ridge that posed a threat to Indian convoys due to enemy fire. Although Batra was initially unwell and excused from the operation, he insisted on leading the charge. In the dark and on steep terrain, he neutralized an enemy machine-gun position with a grenade and engaged in close combat. Tragically, he was killed while attempting to rescue an injured officer, famously telling his subordinate to stay back for the sake of his children. The peak was later renamed Batra Top, and he was awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously, marking the first such honor of the Kargil War.

Who Was Anuj Nayyar?
Hailing from Delhi, Anuj Nayyar was commissioned into the 17 Jat in 1997. During the same operation to secure Point 4875, his unit was assigned to capture a fortified position known as Pimple II. Nayyar led his troops fearlessly, taking out enemy bunkers under heavy fire until he too was killed on that fateful day. His bravery earned him the Maha Vir Chakra, the second-highest military honor in India. The battle for Point 4875 was marked by extraordinary acts of valor, resulting in multiple awards for gallantry, including two Param Vir Chakras and two Maha Vir Chakras.
