In his final film, Ikkis, the beloved Dharmendra portrayed an elderly Indian soldier who reconnects with friends across the border in Pakistan. The film received criticism for its lack of hostility towards Pakistan.

In the upcoming film Batwara 1947, Sunny Deol takes on the role of a Muslim man who relocates to Pakistan during the tumultuous 1947 Partition, where he courageously defends a Hindu woman, played by the talented Shabana Azmi, from violent mobs.

As a result of his portrayal, Sunny has been labeled a 'traitor' and 'desh drohi' by some.

Recently, he encountered significant online backlash after referring to Pakistan as India's 'mausi' (aunt) during a promotional event for Batwara 1947 in Patna. This incident followed another where he was ridiculed for his choice of shoes.

During the promotional activities, a journalist inquired about his perspective on Pakistan. Quoting his father, Dharmendra, Sunny stated, 'In the past, both nations were one. As my father said, India is the mother, and Pakistan came from India, thus it is the mausi. We share a bond.' This remark sparked outrage among netizens, given the historical tensions between the two countries.

Just a month earlier, a video from the trailer launch of his film Ikka went viral, showcasing the worn-out heels of his white shoes. Internet users harshly criticized his fashion choice for a prominent movie event, although many fans defended him, appreciating his humble and relatable demeanor.
