Significance of Diwali: Rituals for Prosperity and Well-Being
Understanding Diwali's Importance
Diwali, a prominent festival in Hinduism, holds immense significance and is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Each year, during the new moon night (Amavasya) of the Kartik month, homes are adorned with lights and lamps. It is a common belief that performing rituals dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha on this day invites joy, prosperity, and wellness into one’s life. The night of Diwali is particularly special as it marks the arrival of Goddess Lakshmi, bringing her blessings. Astrologer Anand Bhardwaj from Ujjain suggests that specific remedies and rituals conducted on this night can help alleviate financial issues and enhance wealth in households. Let’s delve into some of these auspicious remedies that are best performed discreetly.
Diwali Celebration Date
When is Diwali?
The *Kartik Amavasya* will commence at 11:27 AM on November 8 and will last until 12:31 PM on November 9. Therefore, Diwali will be celebrated on Sunday, November 8. The auspicious time for *Lakshmi Pujan* is set between 5:54 PM and 7:50 PM.
Five Essential Remedies for Diwali Night
Five Remedies to Consider:
Traditionally, on Diwali night, gather five betel nuts (*supari*), five turmeric roots, five *kaudis* (cowrie shells), and five *gomti chakras*. Bundle these items in a red cloth and place them at your worship area. After completing the *Lakshmi-Ganesha* puja, tie this bundle at the entrance of your home or shop to attract wealth and happiness.
As Diwali coincides with the new moon (*Amavasya*), placing vermilion (*sindoor*), yogurt, and whole *urad dal* (black gram) at the base of a *peepal* tree, followed by lighting a lamp, is believed to help ease financial burdens.
If your business is struggling, take a piece of alum (*phitkari*) and circle it around your shop on Diwali night. Afterward, dispose of it towards the north. This act is thought to protect against the 'evil eye' (*nazar dosh*) and improve sales.
To honor Goddess Lakshmi, light a lamp filled with pure *desi* ghee, using seven or nine wicks, in front of her. This practice is believed to enhance the financial well-being of all family members.
On Diwali day, take 7 or 11 peppercorns, rotate them counter-clockwise over your head and your family members' heads seven times, then discard them outside the house towards the south. This ritual is believed to promote wealth and safeguard against adversaries.
Conclusion
These rituals not only enhance the festive spirit of Diwali but also serve as a means to invite prosperity and well-being into your life.
