A Historic Celebration in Leicester Square

In a grand celebration marking the 30th anniversary of the beloved film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol unveiled a bronze statue of their legendary characters, Raj and Simran, at Leicester Square in London on Thursday.

Shortly after the unveiling, Shah Rukh Khan took to Instagram to share his excitement with fans, embracing the moment in true cinematic flair.

He kicked off his post with a famous line from the film, “Bade bade deshon mein, aisi chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain, Senorita!”, a phrase that has resonated with movie enthusiasts since its release in 1995.

“Bade bade deshon mein, aisi chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain, Senorita! I am thrilled to unveil the bronze statue of Raj & Simran at Leicester Square today, celebrating 30 years of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ)! I am incredibly grateful that DDLJ is the first Indian film to receive this honor in the Square. A heartfelt thank you to everyone in the UK for making this possible. We invite you to meet Raj & Simran when you visit London... we would love to see you create more memories with DDLJ,” SRK expressed in his post.

He also posted several images from the unveiling event, which was attended by Kajol’s children, Yug and Nysa. Notably, the kids donned outfits reminiscent of the iconic looks worn by their mother and Shah Rukh in the song 'Tujhe Dekha Toh' from DDLJ.

Both stars were elegantly dressed for the occasion, with SRK in a sleek black suit and Kajol in a beautiful saree featuring pastel hues of green and blue. SRK's ensemble was accentuated by a cowbell-inspired brooch, a nod to the memorable Swiss cowbell that symbolizes the romance of the film's protagonists.

This bronze statue marks a significant milestone as it is the first Indian film to be honored with a statue in Leicester Square, joining the ranks of iconic characters from films like Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Paddington, and Singin’ in the Rain, as well as superheroes such as Batman and Wonder Woman.

The statue captures Shah Rukh and Kajol in a classic pose from the film.

Kajol remarked, “It’s amazing to witness the enduring love for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, even after 30 years.”
