Sayani Gupta Ventures into Production

Actor Sayani Gupta is embarking on an exciting new journey by establishing her own production company, Sayani Gupta Movies (SGM). The inaugural project under this banner is her directorial debut, a short film titled Aasmani. After dedicating over ten years to various films and streaming platforms, Sayani expresses that her transition into production stems from a desire to engage more deeply in the storytelling process. She shares, “This has been a long-held aspiration of mine. I aim to tell specific types of stories and create a collaborative environment. We plan to proceed gradually, focusing on one film at a time. The quality of writing, craftsmanship, and storytelling will always be our top priority, which requires ample time, care, and attention for each project.”

Aasmani features notable performances from Revathy, Daria Bedi, and Abhay Kaul, with Sayani taking on the roles of writer, director, and producer. Although she has previously co-produced works like Where the Winds Blow and Upar Neeche, as well as several short films including the Oscar-qualifying Shameless, Aasmani marks her first major production effort.

Sayani dedicated over a year to scouting locations throughout Maharashtra, ultimately choosing Pune as the primary base due to her ties to her alma mater, the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

Managing both production and direction for the first time proved to be a significant challenge. Sayani also mentioned that she is currently involved in two international co-productions across different genres, further broadening her horizons as a producer.
