SAG Awards 32nd Edition: A Surprising Turn in the Oscar Race
SAG Awards Highlights
In a surprising twist during the 32nd Screen Actors Guild Awards, Sinners took home the award for best ensemble, disrupting the anticipated Oscar race following a dominant performance by One Battle After Another. This event is regarded as a significant precursor to the Academy Awards, making the upcoming ceremony even more thrilling.
Delroy Lindo, representing the cast, expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “From the bottom of our hearts, to the bottom of your hearts, thank you so much for everything.”
In a notable upset, Michael B. Jordan clinched the best male actor award, surpassing frontrunner Timothee Chalamet. The 39-year-old actor appeared genuinely surprised as the audience erupted in applause, with Viola Davis presenting the award.
“I wasn’t expecting this at all,” Jordan remarked, taking a moment to reflect on his journey as an actor. “Yeah, man, this is pretty cool.”
Jessie Buckley was awarded best female actor for her role in Hamnet, while Sean Penn, who was absent, received the best supporting male actor award for One Battle After Another. Amy Madigan won best supporting female actor for her performance in Weapons.
Catherine O’Hara was honored posthumously with the best female actor in a comedy series award for her role in The Studio. O’Hara passed away at 71 due to a blood clot in her lungs, and Seth Rogen accepted the award on her behalf.
The ceremony, hosted by Kristen Bell, maintained a light-hearted atmosphere despite ongoing global tensions. SAG-AFTRA president Sean Astin offered a poignant “prayer for peace” during his speech.
Before the main event, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning was recognized for best stunt ensemble. In television categories, The Studio won for comedy series, while The Pitt took home the award for drama series. Notable individual winners included Keri Russell (The Diplomat), Rogen (The Studio), Michelle Williams (Dying for Sex), Owen Cooper (Adolescence), and Noah Wyle (The Pitt).
Harrison Ford received the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award, humorously presented by Woody Harrelson. The 83-year-old actor expressed his humility, saying, “I’m in a room with actors, many of whom are here because they’ve been nominated to receive a prize for their amazing work, while I’m here to receive a prize for being alive,” referring to it as “the half point” of his career.
