It is customary to follow specific guidelines during this worship, which is considered essential for devotees. The rituals typically commence in the morning, as outlined in various scriptures.
Devotees believe that performing a ritual bath (*snan*), consecration (*abhishek*), adorning (*shringar*), and offering food (*bhog*) to Laddu Gopal with sincerity and proper rites on this auspicious day invites the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Importance of Devshayani Ekadashi
On Devshayani Ekadashi, it is believed that Lord Vishnu enters a state of cosmic slumber (*Yoganidra*) on the bed of Sheshnag in the *Kshir Sagar* (Ocean of Milk). This marks the commencement of *Chaturmas*, a sacred period lasting four months. Observing the fast and performing rituals dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi is said to bring joy, prosperity, and tranquility into one’s life. Engaging in prayer, penance, charity, and chanting Lord Vishnu's mantras on this day is believed to eradicate sins and yield lasting merit (*punya*). Additionally, donating food, clothing, and alms (*dakshina*) to those in need is thought to attract Lord Vishnu's special grace. Thus, Devshayani Ekadashi is regarded as a highly auspicious occasion for devotion, fasting, and virtuous actions.
Worshipping Laddu Gopal on Devshayani Ekadashi
On the day of Devshayani Ekadashi, it is recommended to bathe during the *Brahma Muhurta* (early morning hours) or after sunrise, wearing clean, yellow, or light-colored attire. Following this, purify the worship area with *Gangajal* (holy water from the Ganges) and place Laddu Gopal on a ceremonial seat (*asana*). Begin the worship by bathing the deity with pure water, followed by performing the *Abhishek* (ritual bathing) using *Panchamrit*, which consists of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar. After the *Abhishek*, cleanse the deity again with *Gangajal* or clean water, and gently dry Him with a soft cloth.
Adorning Laddu Gopal
After the bathing ritual, dress Laddu Gopal in new, clean garments, preferably in yellow, which is especially auspicious for this occasion. Adorn Him with beautiful accessories such as a peacock-feather crown, a flute, a *Vaijayanti* garland, bracelets, a waist belt (*kardhani*), and other ornaments. Apply a *tilak* of sandalwood paste or saffron on His forehead and offer yellow flowers, particularly marigolds, along with *Tulsi* (holy basil) leaves, as worshipping Lord Vishnu and Shri Krishna is incomplete without *Tulsi*.
Offering Sacred Food to Laddu Gopal
When offering food (*Bhog*) to Laddu Gopal, ensure that only *Sattvic* (pure and wholesome) items are included. Suitable offerings may consist of *Makhan-Mishri* (butter and rock sugar), *Kheer* (rice pudding), *Panjiri*, *Panchamrit*, *Besan Ladoo* (gram flour sweets), fruits, and dry fruits. It is important that the offerings adhere to fasting rules, avoiding garlic, onions, or any *Tamasic* ingredients. After making the offerings, chant the Vishnu mantra or "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" and perform the *Aarti*. At the end of the day, lovingly place Laddu Gopal to rest on a bed made of flowers, yellow mustard seeds, and a hint of perfume.
