Revive Your Soggy Snacks: Simple Hacks to Restore Crunch
Restoring the Crunch to Your Snacks
During the rainy season or if a snack packet is accidentally left open, it's common for savory snacks (*namkeen*) to lose their delightful crunch and become soggy. Enjoying a soft, stale snack with a robust cup of evening tea can ruin the entire experience. Many people end up discarding these snacks due to their diminished taste and texture.
However, there's no need to toss away your favorite snacks anymore. Here are some simple yet effective kitchen tricks that can bring back the crunch and flavor of your snacks, making them taste fresh again in just a few minutes.
**Microwave Method**
For those with a microwave, start by spreading the soggy snacks evenly on a microwave-safe plate. Heat them on high for 30 to 40 seconds.
Be cautious not to eat them right away; they may feel a bit soft initially. Allow them to cool for 2–3 minutes at room temperature. As they cool, you'll notice their crispness returning.
**Pan-Roasting Technique**
If you lack a microwave, your stovetop and a pan can work wonders. Heat a heavy-bottomed pan or *kadhai* on the stove. Once warm, add the soggy snacks and lower the flame to the minimum.
Continuously stir with a spoon to avoid burning. Roast for about 2 to 3 minutes, then turn off the heat. Transfer the snacks to a plate and let them cool; they will regain their perfect crunch.
**Utilizing a Hot Roti Tawa**
After cooking *rotis* or *parathas*, the *tawa* (griddle) retains heat for a while. You can cleverly use this residual heat without wasting gas.
Immediately turn off the gas after cooking. Spread the softened *namkeen* on a clean steel plate and place it on the hot *tawa*. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes.
The heat from the *tawa* will gradually dry out the moisture from the snacks. Once the plate cools, remove the *namkeen* and enjoy; it will be perfectly crispy again.
To prevent your *namkeen* from becoming soft in the first place, always store it in an airtight container after opening. Adding a small piece of blotting paper or tissue inside the jar can help absorb excess moisture, keeping your snacks fresh for a longer time.
