Ravneet Rabab's Sajjna Ve: A Unique Punjabi Love Song Set Against Kashmir's Backdrop
Exploring Love Through a Woman's Perspective
While it’s common to find Punjabi love songs set in the picturesque landscapes of Kashmir, Sajjna Ve, the latest release from independent artist Ravneet Rabab, takes a different approach. This song narrates a heartfelt tale of love and longing through the eyes of a woman, moving beyond the typical scenic portrayal to delve into deeper human emotions.
A Non-Traditional Path to Music
Ravneet's journey to becoming a musician is anything but ordinary. With a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, she initially envisioned a career in that field. However, her passion for music became undeniable. “I realized I was willing to sacrifice my sleep for music,” she reflects. “That’s when I understood it was more than just a hobby; it was my true calling.”
A Musical Foundation
From a young age, Ravneet engaged in various artistic activities, participating in music competitions throughout her school and college years. Her mother played a pivotal role in her musical journey, encouraging her to learn Gurbani Kirtan. Initially reluctant, Ravneet eventually developed a profound love for it. This early exposure not only honed her vocal skills but also deepened her connection to music. Eager to enhance her abilities, she learned to play the guitar through a combination of formal lessons and self-study via YouTube, which led her to share cover songs online. These covers paved the way for her to create and release original music.
A Narrative Beyond Love
Upon completing Sajjna Ve, Ravneet instinctively knew where to set the visuals. “The audio exuded warmth and innocence, making Kashmir the ideal backdrop to convey those feelings,” she explains. However, the music video transcends mere scenic beauty. “The conclusion draws inspiration from the story of Adil (Syed Adil Hussain Shah), a pony guide who tragically lost his life during the Pahalgam attack while attempting to save a tourist. The video serves as a poignant reminder of life’s fragility and the potential for humanity to shine in dark times.” This experience also left a lasting impression on her. “I felt the warmth and kindness of the Kashmiri people. Their generosity and hospitality made the experience unforgettable.”
Navigating Independence in Music
Like many independent artists, Ravneet takes on multiple roles beyond just being a musician. “Being independent means we handle nearly every aspect ourselves,” she states. “From creating music to managing releases, social media, and marketing, we are responsible for building our own audience.” She acknowledges that social media has opened up new avenues but has also changed the nature of the work. “In addition to making music, we constantly think about content creation, video editing, crafting engaging Instagram hooks, and maintaining relevance.”
Looking Ahead
As Ravneet continues to release original tracks and perform live, she emphasizes that one aspect of her musical journey will remain constant. “Gurbani will always hold a significant place in my life. I’m thankful that people resonate so deeply with those songs. Regardless of where my career leads, I will always cherish that connection, as it is what ignited my passion for music in the first place.”
