Ramayana Set for Global Premiere at San Diego Comic-Con
International Debut of Ramayana
Ramayana is poised to make its international debut at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23, marking a significant milestone as only the second Indian film to receive such a prominent platform, following Kalki 2898 AD. The presentation is scheduled for 3:15 PM local time (3:15 AM IST) in Ballroom 20, a venue that accommodates 4,800 attendees, making it one of the most prestigious locations at the event, second only to the renowned Hall H.
Star-Studded Presentation
Director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra, along with lead actors Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, will showcase the film to an international audience. Malhotra, who is the founder of Prime Focus, also holds the position of global CEO at DNEG, the visual effects company responsible for some of the most significant cinematic spectacles worldwide.
Trailer Launch in India
Prior to its U.S. premiere, the film will return to India for its initial major reveal. The trailer is set to debut at a grand event in Delhi's Bharat Mandapam on July 18, just five days before the Comic-Con presentation, with the same core team expected to be present.
Cast and Characters
In this epic, Kapoor portrays Lord Rama, while Yash takes on the role of Ravana. Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Sunny Deol embodies Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey plays Lakshman. The ensemble cast also features Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra, along with appearances from Lara Dutta, Sheeba Chaddha, Arun Govil, and Adinath Kothare.
A Monumental Production
With an estimated budget of Rs 4,000 crore, Ramayana is being hailed as the largest production ever undertaken in Indian cinema. The film is designed as a two-part saga, with Part 1 scheduled for release during Diwali 2026, followed by Part 2 in Diwali 2027.
Musical Collaborations
There are reports that renowned composers Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, who are collaborating on the film's score, may perform live at international events associated with the release, although these plans have yet to be officially confirmed by the filmmakers.
Global Cinematic Ambitions
With the trailer launch in Delhi on July 18 and the Comic-Con event shortly after, the strategy is clear: to establish Ramayana as not just a regional hit, but a significant global cinematic experience.
