Ram Kapoor Opens Up About His Struggles on Lock Upp: A Journey Through Depression and Redemption
Ram Kapoor's Unseen Struggles Revealed
For nearly three decades, Ram Kapoor has been a prominent figure in Indian television. However, during a recent episode of Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa, he unveiled a personal side that even his wife, Gautami Kapoor, had never witnessed.
As the show approaches its finale, the seasoned actor reflected on how his iconic role in Bade Acche Lagte Hain, which aired in 2011, significantly impacted his career. He candidly shared that the series concluded partly due to his own behavior.
Ram stated, “After 27 years in the industry, with numerous films to my credit, my identity is still tied to one show – Bade Acche Lagte Hain. I’ve harbored a secret that even my wife is unaware of. During the show's run, I faced the darkest period of my life. The affection I received due to my weight made me a top-rated TV star, but it came at a cost.”
He revealed that behind the fame was a man grappling with severe depression, a critical health crisis, and a concealed drinking issue. Doctors warned him that he might not survive beyond six months due to dangerously high blood sugar levels, requiring insulin thrice daily, all while working 14-hour days on set. Despite this, he felt compelled to continue, driven by the love and financial rewards.
This led to a downward spiral where he frequently arrived late to shoots, consumed alcohol on set, and mistreated his colleagues. “I turned into a monster,” he admitted. It was only after becoming a father that he began to see a shift in his life, crediting his children as the reason for his survival.
This revelation marked his third and final confession on the show, securing him a spot in the finale week. The winner of Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa will be announced on August 5.
