Quick and Tasty Bread Upma Recipe for Breakfast
Transform Leftover Bread into a Delicious Breakfast
During busy mornings, we often whip up bread-based meals, leaving us with some leftover bread. Instead of repeating the same dish, why not turn that extra bread into a quick and flavorful breakfast option: Bread Upma? Let’s dive into this simple recipe.
**Ingredients Needed**
6–7 slices of bread
1 finely chopped onion
1 tsp finely chopped garlic
1 chopped tomato
7–8 curry leaves
1 finely chopped green chili
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tbsp lemon juice
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves for garnish
**How to Prepare**
Begin by cutting the bread into small pieces, keeping the crusts on or off as per your preference.
Heat a tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over high heat. Once hot, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and garlic, sautéing briefly.
Next, toss in the chopped onion and sauté for a few moments before adding the chopped tomato.
After cooking the onion and tomato for 1–2 minutes, mix in turmeric powder, salt, and red chili powder.
Stir the mixture for 3–4 minutes, then add the bread pieces and sauté again.
Once everything is well combined and cooked, turn off the heat and stir in lemon juice and coriander leaves.
Serve hot, and this Upma also makes a great addition to your children's lunchboxes.
**Potato Variation**
If tomatoes aren’t your thing, consider using two boiled potatoes instead. Simply omit the tomatoes and add the boiled potatoes after tempering the mustard seeds, curry leaves, and garlic, followed by sautéing the onions. This method allows you to create two delightful variations of bread upma by alternating the ingredients.
