Madhoo Reflects on Her Cinematic Journey and Upcoming Projects
A Versatile Actress Across Multiple Cinemas
Since her remarkable debut in the early 1990s with hits like Phool Aur Kaante and Roja, Madhoo, whose full name is Madhoobala Raghunath Malini, has seamlessly transitioned between Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and now Malayalam films.
Currently, she portrays the role of Manoj Bajpayee's Malayali spouse in the film Governor, where her performance adds a touch of warmth to an otherwise subdued narrative. Expressing gratitude for the film's positive reception, she reflects on her career, stating, 'I cherish my work. Everyone is familiar with Roja and Phool Aur Kaante. Each film has contributed to my growth in some way.'
A Turning Point in Her Career
Madhoo highlights a significant project in her career: 'My comeback to the film industry with the web series Sweet Kaaram Coffee marked a pivotal moment. It offered me a substantial role, which is incredibly impactful.'
Balancing her acting career with family life, she shares, 'I adore being an actress, a wife, and most importantly, a mother. My daughters always come first.'
Proud of Her Work
She takes pride in her selective yet meaningful body of work, stating, 'I am very proud of Governor; it’s a well-crafted film. Manoj Bajpayee is an exceptional actor, and he brings authenticity to every role he plays. Currently, I’m in Kochi promoting a bilingual film shot in Varanasi last year, titled Chinna Chinna Aasai, which features my song from Roja.'
A Unique Love Story
'While I enjoy my work, I don’t get overly attached to any single film. However, this project feels special as the producers have shown immense trust in my capabilities after all these years. It resembles Roja in its essence, presenting a beautiful narrative. I portray a 50-year-old woman who encounters a 65-year-old stranger, creating an autumnal love story.'
Sacrifices for Art
Madhoo made significant sacrifices for her role, stating, 'I spent an entire month in Varanasi for Chinna Chinna Aasai, prioritizing this project over family time.'
Fortunately, her family supported her decision to shoot during their usual family gathering time. 'My family was understanding this year. My husband and children managed well without me, and my brother even adjusted his travel plans from the US to fit my schedule.'
A Passion for Quality Work
'I am an artist, a realization that dawned on me during my time away from work. While I cherished my family moments, returning to the camera is equally exhilarating.'
