Festivities of Bakr-Eid in Ludhiana

On Thursday, Ludhiana marked the celebration of Bakr-Eid, also known as Eid-al-Adha. The festivities are set to continue for the next three days, commencing today. This significant day symbolizes the act of ‘sacrifice’ in devotion to Allah.

The Shahi Imam of Punjab, Usman Ludhianvi, elaborates on the essence of sacrifice in the name of Allah. He emphasizes that it transcends the mere act of sacrificing animals; it also involves letting go of negative traits such as arrogance, anger, and pride.

Beginning at dawn, thousands of devotees gathered for Namaz at the Jama Masjid in Field Ganj. The streets were meticulously cleaned to accommodate prayers outside the mosque, followed by the traditional ritual of sacrifice.

Mohammad Mustakeem shared, “We portion the meat from the sacrificed animal and distribute it among ourselves as well as the less fortunate. In the evening, friends and family come together to enjoy a lavish feast.” Sarah Siddiqui, a local resident, highlighted the festival's significance for the Muslim community, stating, “This day serves as a reminder that we are willing to sacrifice what we cherish most for the sake of God.”
