A Glimpse into Rahul Gandhi's Personal World

While Rahul Gandhi's political endeavors are widely recognized, his personal life remains largely under wraps. This private sphere is filled with family, four beloved dogs, a passion for music, and a commitment to fitness.

According to a close associate, "Rahul is an early riser who enjoys biking, hitting the gym, and practicing a gentle art that combines Jiu Jitsu, Aikido, and peaceful conflict resolution techniques often used by Buddhist monks. He engages in this practice at least once a week."

On a personal note, Rahul is deeply devoted to his mother, Sonia Gandhi, showing a protective and respectful demeanor. A memorable moment captured during the Bharat Jodo Yatra showed him tying her shoelaces, and he often fetches her slippers without hesitation.

Since leaving his 12 Tughlak Lane residence after his disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP in April 2023, Rahul has been residing at his mother's home at 10 Janpath in Lutyens Delhi. He chose not to return to 12 Tughlak Lane, even after it was reallocated to him in August 2023 following a Supreme Court ruling that restored his membership.

Rahul's close-knit circle includes his mother, sister Priyanka, and his niece and nephew. He frequently spends time with Sonia, often driving to 10 Janpath for dinner, even when he lived at 12 Tughlak Lane.

Not particularly a foodie, Rahul prefers simple, non-spicy meals, enjoying local dishes from the regions he visits. For instance, he relishes parathas and pickles in Punjab, while in Kolkata, he is known to dine at Peter Cat on Park Street for its renowned Chelo Kebab, a dish with Iranian origins that has been a staple for decades.

"Due to his rigorous exercise routine, Rahul favors protein-rich foods and tends to avoid carbohydrates," shares a friend.

As the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul's schedule leaves little room for leisure. However, during his downtime, he enjoys watching films, listening to music, or spending time with his Jack Russell Terriers at home.

A significant aspect of Rahul's character is his preference for a modest lifestyle. Former leaders of the Indian Youth Congress recount instances where he encouraged colleagues to avoid flaunting luxury items, whether they be watches, cars, or clothing.

Typically, Rahul is seen in his signature white T-shirt and kurta pyjamas, often sourced from Khadi. He is also known for his preference for comfortable footwear, primarily sneakers.

When it comes to his favorite spots, aides mention Fujiya in Delhi's Malcha Marg, a quiet venue he used to visit with his late father, Rajiv Gandhi. He is also a regular at various eateries in Khan Market, the Andhra Bhavan canteen in central Delhi, and a restaurant located within the Italian Embassy.
