Important Update on Thailand's Visa Regulations for Travelers
Crucial Changes to Thailand's Entry Rules
If you're considering a trip to Thailand soon, it's essential to be informed about a significant update regarding entry regulations. The Thai government has made a pivotal change that travelers must take note of.
As per the latest decision, the 60-day visa-free entry that was previously available to visitors from 93 nations, including India, has been entirely revoked. This adjustment is part of Thailand's broader initiative to refine visa categories and enhance immigration oversight. Here are the essential visa-related updates you should be aware of before your journey to Thailand.
Effective Date of New Regulations
**When will the new rules come into effect?**
The Thai Cabinet sanctioned this proposal on May 19, 2026. The new regulations will take effect 15 days after they are published in the Royal Gazette.
Impact on Indian Travelers
**How will this impact Indian travelers?**
This change will significantly affect Indian tourists heading to Thailand. In July 2024, India was included in the 60-day visa-free entry program, allowing Indian citizens to stay for up to two months without a visa; however, this is no longer applicable.
With the recent modifications, India has been moved to the "Visa on Arrival" category. Consequently, Indian passport holders will no longer enjoy visa-free entry into Thailand.
Now, Indian travelers must present the required documentation at immigration checkpoints and secure a visa upon arrival. Additionally, under this category, the maximum stay in Thailand will be limited to 15 days. This duration is suitable for short trips, but those planning a longer vacation will need to make prior arrangements.
Current Visitors in Thailand
**What happens to those who are already in Thailand?**
If you are already in Thailand or arrive before the new regulations take effect, there is no cause for concern. You will be allowed to remain for the duration of your approved stay.
Countries Eligible for Visa-Free Entry
Which countries will be granted visa-free entry?
After these changes, 54 countries will still benefit from Thailand's 30-day visa-free entry policy. This includes countries like Australia, Japan, the USA, Switzerland, Malaysia, the UK, Canada, Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and South Africa.
