Hugh Jackman Discusses His Role in The Death of Robin Hood

Hugh Jackman, renowned actor and singer, draws intriguing comparisons between his latest film, The Death of Robin Hood, and his 2017 superhero flick, Logan, noting that "there are some definite parallels." During a conversation about his new project with co-star Jodie Comer, he expressed his fascination with antihero roles throughout his career.

"I find them captivating," Jackman remarked while discussing his portrayal of an older Robin Hood in this fresh take on the legendary character.

This film presents a grittier and darker interpretation of Robin Hood, diverging from previous adaptations. Fans of Jackman may recognize echoes of Logan, which also depicted a mature version of Wolverine as he faced the realities of aging.

"Even as a child, I was drawn to characters like Han Solo from Star Wars. They intrigued me," Jackman reflected.

He cited Clint Eastwood's 1992 film Unforgiven as another impactful example of an antihero. "As I age, I find myself increasingly attracted to the complexities of human nature rather than simplistic portrayals of good and evil," he explained.

"I had significant input in the direction of Logan, and I believe this film takes those themes even further, showcasing clear similarities," he added.

In The Death of Robin Hood, Jackman’s character grapples with the consequences of a violent past. After sustaining severe injuries in a confrontation, he is cared for by Comer’s Sister Brigid in a monastery. The film also features Bill Skarsgard, Noah Jupe, Murray Bartlett, and Faith Delaney.

Jackman previously mentioned that being part of a film centered on the protagonist's demise provided him with numerous "healing" moments for introspection. "I often describe it as beautiful, which might seem simplistic," he shared, emphasizing the complexity and beauty of humanity.

"Exploring the final moments of life, while hoping they aren't truly the end, allows for a unique experience," he said regarding the film's death scenes.

"There’s a certain beauty in death and closure," he added, with Comer affirming the theme of "letting go." Jackman echoed this sentiment, stating, "This character has held onto so much guilt and pain. The process of letting go and entering that space is meditative, calming, and genuinely healing," as reported by a Media House.

The Death of Robin Hood is currently showing in theaters.
