While numerous commercial options exist, crafting this time-honored organic remedy at home provides genuine strength and immunity. Here’s a straightforward guide to preparing authentic Chyawanprash without any additives or shortcuts.
Steps to Prepare Chyawanprash at Home:
Start by washing one kilogram of fresh amla and pressure cooking it for two whistles. After it cools, remove the seeds and create a pulp.
Next, boil selected dried herbs like pippali, guduchi, and ashwagandha in one liter of water on low heat for 1-2 hours until the liquid reduces by half. Strain this mixture using a sieve or muslin cloth to obtain your herbal decoction.
In a heavy-bottomed pan, mix the amla pulp with the herbal decoction. Add jaggery or sugar and cook on low heat, stirring continuously. When the mixture thickens and begins to pull away from the pan's sides, incorporate 4-5 tablespoons of ghee.
After allowing the mixture to cool slightly, stir in honey along with spices like cinnamon and cardamom for enhanced flavor and health benefits.
Once fully cooled, store it in an airtight glass container. This preparation remains fresh for several months. For optimal results, consume 1-2 teaspoons daily on an empty stomach or with warm milk.
