Hillang Yajik Shines at South Asian Bodybuilding Championships

A Rising Star in Bodybuilding
With a mix of pride and nervousness, Hillang Yajik shared her journey with a local news outlet, reflecting on her unexpected rise to fame. Eight years ago, she embarked on a path that led her to secure a gold medal at the 15th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships 2025 held in Thimphu, Bhutan.
Hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, Yajik has made history as the first female athlete from her state to clinch a gold medal in physique sports at an international level.
“When I began my bodybuilding journey, I was told by many that I was an inspiration. This motivated me to keep pushing forward, inspiring both myself and others,” she expressed.
At the recent championship, she earned two medals: a gold in the Women’s Model Physique (up to 155 cm) category and a silver in another division. Yajik attributes her success to her coach, Subhashish Patra, who offered his guidance without charging her any fees. “He recognized my potential and helped me reach this significant milestone,” she noted.
As the daughter of a government worker and a homemaker, Hillang has become a sensation on social media, receiving accolades from fellow athletes and politicians alike.
“After not winning any international medals last year, I felt disheartened but refused to give up. I put in extra effort this time,” she joyfully shared on her social media shortly after her victory. “This medal is dedicated to my country, my state Arunachal, my coach @primeoptimus_123, and to myself,” she added, posting stunning photos of her in a sparkling green bikini and stylish heels.
Her coach, Subhashish Patra, also took to social media to celebrate her achievement. “You’ve fulfilled the dreams of millions. Hearing the national anthem played for you while representing India is a greater achievement than any other… I’m proud of you. Blessings to you… We will achieve many more proud moments for our nation,” he wrote.
Hillang’s remarkable achievement comes on the heels of another significant milestone in Indian bodybuilding, as Sunmeet Singh, the first turbaned IBBF athlete from Sirsa, qualified for Mr. Olympia 2025.
