Golden Globes 2026: A Night of Triumphs and Surprises

At the 83rd Golden Globes held on Sunday, Paul Thomas Anderson's groundbreaking film, One Battle After Another, took home the top honors in the comedy category. Meanwhile, Chloe Zhao's adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamnet surprised many by winning the award for best film in the drama category.

One Battle After Another not only clinched the best film in comedy but also earned accolades for Teyana Taylor as the best supporting female actor, along with Anderson winning for best director and best screenplay. This achievement makes him only the second director to sweep these categories at the Globes, a feat previously accomplished by Oliver Stone for Born on the Fourth of July.

Despite Hamnet's victory, Sinners secured awards for best score and recognition for cinematic and box-office success.

The ceremony, hosted by Nikki Glaser, was a star-studded affair that marked a comeback for the Globes after recent controversies. The event featured wins for the animated hit KPop Demon Hunters (best animated film and song) and a unique award for podcasting, which went to Amy Poehler's Good Hang.

Timothee Chalamet celebrates his win for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for "Marty Supreme" at the 83rd Annual Golden Globes in Beverly Hills, California, U.S., January 11, 2026.

Timothee Chalamet also made headlines by winning his first Golden Globe for his role in Marty Supreme, after being nominated four times previously. His win was met with applause from fellow nominees, including Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney.

Glaser, returning as host for the second consecutive year, opened the show with a humorous monologue that poked fun at various topics, including the age of DiCaprio's romantic partners and Kevin Hart's height. She also addressed more serious issues, referencing the Epstein files and making a quip about the Justice Department's editing skills.

As Hollywood grapples with a challenging box office year and uncertainty surrounding Warner Bros, the atmosphere at the awards was charged with political tension. Attendees, including Mark Ruffalo and Wanda Sykes, wore pins advocating for justice following the tragic shooting of Megan Good by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer.
