Hema Malini Celebrates 60 Years in Cinema with a Spectacular Concert
A Night to Remember: Hema Malini's Diamond Jubilee Celebration
Renowned actress Hema Malini, marking her remarkable 60-year journey in Indian cinema, expressed her gratitude and pride during a special concert titled Hema Malini Live in Concert: Celebrating the Dream Girl's Diamond Jubilee. The event took place at Mumbai's Shanmukhananda Hall on Friday, featuring a 15-piece orchestra that highlighted significant moments from her illustrious film career through music.
Known for her iconic roles in classics like Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta, and Baghban, Malini thanked her fans for their enduring love and support. She shared, “I owe a lot to my mother, who has always been my pillar of strength. Mothers play a crucial role in shaping their children's lives and careers. My family has been my backbone, enabling my growth in this industry,” said the 77-year-old star.
Feeling immensely proud to be part of such a vibrant film industry, Malini reflected on her nearly 200 films and the unforgettable songs she has performed. “The film industry is a vast and beautiful space that offers opportunities to everyone. Talent and dedication are key to reaching the pinnacle of success,” she added.
In addition to her acting career, Malini has directed two films, including Dil Aashna Hai (1992) starring Shah Rukh Khan and Tell Me O Kkhuda (2011) featuring her daughter Esha Deol. She also acknowledged the behind-the-scenes talent, including costume designers and makeup artists, stating, “Their hard work and dedication have contributed significantly to my on-screen presence.”
When asked about the possibility of Deepika Padukone portraying her in a biopic, Malini enthusiastically agreed, saying, “If she wishes to, she can definitely take on that role. Deepika is a talented and beautiful actress.”
The concert featured performances by various artists, including Sudesh Bhosle and Anup Jalota, who brought to life some of Malini's beloved songs like Meri Makhna Meri Soniye and Hori Khele Raghuveera. Malini expressed her appreciation for the performers, stating, “I feel truly fortunate to have such talented singers celebrate my journey.”
Among the attendees were several of Malini's industry friends, including Madhoo and Shatrughan Sinha, who came to support the charity event. Malini expressed her gratitude for their presence, noting that her elder daughter Esha was unable to attend due to illness.
Director Ramesh Sippy, who has collaborated with Malini on numerous films, praised her professionalism and memory, recalling her eagerness to take on challenging roles. “Her ability to remember dialogues is remarkable, and she has left a lasting impression as Basanti from Sholay,” he remarked.
Madhoo, a cousin of Malini, admired her resilience and composure during tough times, sharing, “Hema has always maintained her grace and strength, drawing inspiration from her faith.”
The charity concert, produced and directed by RJ Anirudh, also paid tribute to Dharmendra and contributed Rs 10 lakh to CINTAA and FWICE, showcasing Malini's commitment to giving back to the industry.
