Healthy and Crispy French Fries Without Deep-Frying
Enjoy Guilt-Free French Fries
If you're a fan of French fries but want to avoid the unhealthy aspects of deep-frying, there are alternative methods to achieve that crispy texture without using too much oil. You might think that an oven or air fryer is necessary, but that's not the only way.
Steps to Create Crispy French Fries Without Frying
Making French fries without frying is not only quick but also a healthier choice. Here are some effective tips to prepare them:
Slice the Potatoes Thinly
Start by peeling the potatoes and cutting them into long, thin strips. It's important that the strips are not too thick; they should be elongated and very slender.
Eliminate Excess Starch
After thoroughly washing the potato strips, soak them in water for a minimum of 20 minutes. For better results, soaking for an hour is ideal, as it helps to remove the excess starch.
Ensure They Are Dry
Once soaked, take the potato strips out and place them on a plate. Spread them out on a clean cotton cloth or towel for about 10–20 minutes. This step is crucial for removing any remaining moisture.
Coat with Cornstarch Mixture
To achieve that desired crispiness, combine cornstarch, salt, and black pepper with a small amount of water. Coat the dried potato strips thoroughly with this mixture, which will help create a crispy texture without frying.
Cooking the Fries
Next, heat a non-stick pan over low heat. Optionally, you can lightly grease the pan with half a teaspoon of oil. Add the coated potato strips in small batches and cook for 5–6 minutes until they achieve a light golden-brown color. Your delicious, oil-free French fries are now ready to be served as a snack, paired with green or red chutney.
