Innovative Prostate Treatment Introduced at Jaipur's SMS Hospital

Pioneering Pain-Free Prostate Treatment

At the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College in Jaipur, patients can now receive prostate treatment without experiencing pain. The Urology Department has successfully performed prostate therapy using the Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy for the first time. This procedure is conducted without anesthesia, surgery, and in a remarkably short duration.

Typically available only in expensive corporate hospitals, SMS Hospital has become the first government facility in North India to offer this advanced treatment.

Understanding Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy

According to Dr. Shivam Priyadarshi, head of the Urology Department, this minimally invasive technique involves inserting a small device through the urethra to reach the prostate. Controlled amounts of steam (water vapor) are injected, effectively destroying excess prostate tissue. The body then naturally absorbs these tissues, alleviating urinary issues.

Key Benefits of the Procedure

  • Procedure can be done without surgery or hospitalization

  • Treatment completed in approximately 30 minutes

  • Minimal bleeding

  • No impact on sexual function

  • Quick recovery, allowing patients to return to their normal routines swiftly

Quick Treatment Without Anesthesia

The initial operation at SMS Hospital was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Rohit, a urologist from Fortis Hospital in Mohali, who has successfully performed over 150 procedures using this technique. He emphasized that this method is particularly beneficial for patients already suffering from serious health conditions.

Proposal for Machine Purchase

Currently, the machine used for this technique was brought in as a demo. Dr. Shivam Priyadarshi mentioned that a proposal will be submitted to the government for the purchase of this machine, estimated at around 9 million rupees, to ensure that more patients can benefit from this innovative treatment.
