Health Alert: Rising Diarrhoea Cases Prompt School Closures in Cuttack
Snehasish Ganguly Hospitalized Amid Diarrhoea Outbreak
New Delhi, June 17: Snehasish Ganguly, the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), was admitted to Woodlands Hospital on Tuesday due to symptoms including diarrhoea, vomiting, and abdominal discomfort.
A statement from Woodlands Hospital confirmed, “Mr. Snehasish Ganguly was admitted this morning with diarrhoea, vomiting, and abdominal pain under the care of Dr. Saptarshi Basu. He is currently receiving IV fluids and antibiotics, and his condition is stable while under observation.”
In a related health crisis, Cuttack district has seen a sudden increase in diarrhoea cases, with 64 individuals reported affected. Out of these, 55 patients have been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, while nine others are being treated at City Hospital, Cuttack.
Tragically, one death has been linked to this outbreak. In response to the escalating situation, local authorities have decided to close all schools and colleges in Cuttack district until June 20.
Dr. Tapan Kumar Mishra, a Senior Medicine Consultant at City Hospital, expressed his concerns regarding patient behavior during treatment. He noted, “Patients are arriving with symptoms such as abdominal pain and vomiting. However, many leave the hospital after just 1-2 days of saline treatment without notifying our staff, leaving us helpless.”
He highlighted that incomplete treatment is a significant contributor to the recurrence of diarrhoea cases. “Proper recovery cannot be achieved without completing the full treatment course. This tendency to leave prematurely is hazardous,” Dr. Mishra cautioned, emphasizing the need for better patient education.
City Hospital has allocated 20 beds specifically for diarrhoea patients, with an additional five available for emergency overflow. Dr. Mishra has also issued a public advisory urging people to avoid street food during this critical period.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are urging the public to remain vigilant and follow medical guidance.
