Adnan Sami's Inspiring Weight Loss Journey: A Promise to His Father
A Life-Changing Moment in London
During a visit to Cromwell Hospital in London, Adnan Sami faced a devastating moment with his father, who was battling pancreatic cancer. A doctor delivered a shocking prognosis, stating that due to his weight, he had only six months left to live.
His father, fully aware of the gravity of the situation, listened intently.
In a recent Zoom conversation, Sami recounted how he attempted to lighten the mood as they exited the hospital. He reassured his father, saying, 'The doctor is being overly dramatic.' However, his father, already grappling with his own health issues, responded with a stark realization: 'Really? Do you honestly believe that? I can see it myself. He’s not exaggerating. He’s correct.'
A Promise That Sparked Change
Instead of reacting with anger or fear, his father expressed a heartfelt wish: he didn’t want to outlive his son. This emotional exchange led Sami to make a vow, promising, 'I’ll fix this.' This promise, made in a hospital corridor, became the catalyst for his transformation.
At his peak weight of approximately 230 kg, Sami found himself mostly bedridden. With professional guidance, he completely revamped his diet, eliminating bread, rice, sugar, oil, and alcohol, opting instead for a high-protein, low-carb regimen. In the first month alone, he shed 20 kg. However, the subsequent months proved to be incredibly challenging. 'I worked tirelessly. After a week of intense effort, I’d find I’d only lost half a kilo. It’s disheartening to think, 'All that effort for this?'' he shared.
A Remarkable Transformation
Despite the difficulties, Sami persevered and ultimately lost an impressive 120 kg.
The Padma Shri awardee, celebrated for his hits like Lift Karadey, Tera Chehra, and Bhar Do Jholi Meri, has frequently discussed his weight loss journey over the years. The memories of that hospital visit, his father's tears, and the promise made under such dire circumstances remain the foundation of his inspiring story.
