Monsoon Skincare Essentials

The monsoon season brings humidity that demands special attention for skin care. One effective method to care for your skin during this time is face steaming. This technique, rooted in Ayurveda as part of 'Swedana' therapy, has been utilized for centuries to rejuvenate and refresh the skin. It effectively unclogs pores, eliminates excess oil and dirt, and helps mitigate acne problems.

Benefits of Face Steaming

Combatting Acne
Face steaming serves as a natural method for deep skin cleansing. It opens up pores, softens the skin, and enhances blood circulation. The steam loosens oil, sebum, and dirt trapped in the skin, simplifying the cleansing process. Steaming prior to blackhead removal helps to open the pores and soften the blackheads, making extraction easier.

Cleansing and Hydration

Enhancing Skin Health
Steam not only hydrates the skin but also aids in cleansing by opening up the pores. A steam facial boosts blood circulation, ensuring that oxygen and nutrients are delivered effectively to skin cells. This process supports the skin's natural care routine, helping to maintain its oil balance and leaving the face looking soft, fresh, and healthy.

How to Steam Your Face

Method One

To begin steaming, take a clean small towel. Fill a heat-proof bowl with hot water, soak the towel in it, and wring it out thoroughly. Place the warm towel over your face, ensuring the water is not boiling and the towel is not too hot. Limit this process to a maximum of 10 minutes, taking short breaks every two to three minutes, and stop immediately if you experience any burning sensation.

Method Two

Boil water in a pot and add ingredients like orange peels, dried rose petals, lavender, eucalyptus, or other herbs. Once boiled, remove the pot from heat. Drape a towel over your head and inhale the steam, keeping your face 8–10 inches away from the water. Close your eyes while steaming and continue only as long as it feels comfortable.

Precautions to Consider

Face steaming can be done two to three times a week; however, if you have dry skin, apply moisturizer beforehand. After steaming, use a face toner to help maintain the skin's pH balance and tighten the pores. Overdoing it can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to tightness, irritation, redness, and flaking. Additionally, individuals with rosacea or eczema should avoid steaming.
