Essential Guidelines for Setting Up the Chauki During Chaitra Navratri
Guidelines for Establishing the Chauki
This year, Chaitra Navratri commences on March 19, 2026. During these nine days dedicated to honoring Shakti (the Divine Feminine), followers create a Chauki (sacred altar) for Goddess Durga in their homes. It is crucial to adhere to specific guidelines regarding the direction and rituals for setting up the Chauki, as any mistakes may hinder the spiritual benefits of the worship. The scriptures provide several key rules for this process. Let's delve into these guidelines.
Key Rules for Setting Up the Chauki
The Chauki should ideally be positioned in the Ishan Kon (North-East corner) of the home. This placement is believed to enhance positive energy. Conversely, incorrect positioning can reduce the effectiveness of the worship.
Some worshippers may place multiple idols or images on the altar. However, scriptures advise against having more than two idols in one location, as having three is considered inauspicious.
During Navratri, the color black is deemed inauspicious. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid black clothing or fabrics at the worship site. Instead, auspicious colors like red and yellow should be used.
The installation of the Kalash (sacred pot) is particularly significant. It should be placed to the right of the Goddess Durga's idol or image. Incorrect placement may prevent devotees from receiving the full spiritual rewards of their worship.
