Nirjala Ekadashi Fasting Essentials for 2026
Nirjala Ekadashi Fasting Essentials List 2026: The observance of Nirjala Ekadashi will take place on Thursday, June 25. This significant festival is celebrated each year on the *Ekadashi* (the eleventh day) of the waxing moon phase (*Shukla Paksha*) in the month of *Jyeshtha*. Nirjala Ekadashi is regarded as a major (*Badi*) Ekadashi; performing this fast with the correct rituals is believed to provide spiritual benefits equivalent to observing all twenty-four Ekadashis throughout the year.
According to ancient tales, during the Mahabharata period, Bhimasena struggled to fast without food or water. Sage Vedavyasa advised him to undertake the Nirjala Ekadashi fast. This is why it is also referred to as 'Bhimaseni Ekadashi.' It is believed that observing this fast with sincerity and following the guidelines cleanses one of sins and attracts the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Here’s a list of items needed for the Nirjala Ekadashi puja...
Importance of the Nirjala Ekadashi Fast
Religious texts indicate that the Nirjala Ekadashi fast brings joy, wealth, and spiritual advancement into an individual's life. Remembering Lord Vishnu, chanting mantras, and engaging in charitable acts on this day is said to lead to *Moksha* (liberation). Devotees who observe this fast are believed to be freed from the fear of Yama (the God of Death) and attain *Vishnuloka* (the realm of Lord Vishnu) after death. Fasting without water during the hot summer is seen as a demonstration of self-control and determination. However, the elderly, ill, and pregnant women should fast according to their health conditions.
