Inauguration of Beach Games in Diu

Diu (Daman and Diu) [India], May 20: Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya expressed that the "new" India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, not only envisions dreams but also provides avenues to achieve them.

On Monday, the Beach Games, a part of the expanding Khelo India initiative, were officially launched by the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, during a vibrant ceremony at Ghoghla Beach, the event's venue in Diu.

While addressing the gathering, Mandaviya conveyed his best wishes to over 1,350 athletes competing in the event. He also announced plans to develop Diu as a hub for beach sports and tourism.

"The Beach Games 2025 commenced along the Arabian Sea coast in Diu, featuring participation from more than 1,350 athletes across eight disciplines. This marks the second edition of the games. Given the successful organization this time and the previous one, Diu is poised to become the premier destination for beach sports, which is why the Prime Minister has decided to host future beach games here. It will be promoted as a center for beach sports and tourism," Mandaviya stated to the media.

He further emphasized, "This is the new India under PM Modi's leadership, which not only dreams but also provides opportunities to realize those dreams. The objective of these games is to enable athletes to bring honor to the nation on a global stage."

Former Indian cricketer and 2007 T20 World Cup champion Joginder Sharma extended his best wishes to the athletes, stating, "I believe these competitions will elevate the tricolor on an international platform. I hope the athletes secure the most medals."

Trupti Murgunde, a former Indian badminton player and Commonwealth Games medalist, praised the "wonderful initiative," noting, "Numerous states are participating, including those without beaches. The enthusiasm to compete is evident. Diu is emerging as a prime location for beach games. This is a remarkable initiative."
