Delicious Sesame and Jaggery Ladoos: A Winter Delight

Savor the Taste of Winter with Sesame Ladoos

Picture the cozy warmth of the winter sun paired with the delightful taste of sesame and jaggery ladoos. These treats are essential during festivals like Makar Sankranti and Lohri, yet many struggle with making them just right, often ending up with ladoos that are either too hard or fall apart.

Today, we share a 'secret recipe' that guarantees ladoos so soft they practically dissolve in your mouth. Not only are they a tasty indulgence, but they also offer significant health benefits.

Ingredients Needed for Sesame and Jaggery Ladoos
Creating these ladoos requires just a handful of ingredients, likely already in your kitchen:

White sesame seeds: 2 cups
Grated or chopped jaggery: 1.5 cups
Ghee: 1 tablespoon (this is key for softness)
Cardamom powder: half a teaspoon (for added aroma)
(Optional: a few chopped almonds or cashews)

Simple Steps to Prepare Sesame and Jaggery Ladoos
Begin by heating a heavy-bottomed pan and roasting the sesame seeds over low heat. Avoid raising the temperature to prevent burning, and roast for about 3-4 minutes until they puff slightly and emit a pleasant aroma. Once done, transfer the seeds to a plate to cool.

In the same pan, melt 1 tablespoon of ghee. Once melted, add the jaggery. The ghee not only adds shine but also keeps the ladoos soft. Allow the jaggery to melt over low heat, and as soon as it begins to froth, turn off the heat. Overcooking the jaggery can lead to hard ladoos.

Immediately after turning off the heat, mix in the roasted sesame seeds and cardamom powder with the melted jaggery. This needs to be done quickly as the mixture will start to set as it cools. Form the ladoos while the mixture is still warm enough to handle. Lightly moisten your palms with water or ghee to prevent sticking, then take a small portion of the mixture and roll it into a ball.

A Nutritional Powerhouse
These ladoos are more than just a sweet treat; they are a winter 'superfood'.

Sesame seeds are packed with calcium, beneficial for alleviating bone pain.
