Delicious Malai Pyaz: A Creamy Onion Delight
Discover the Richness of Malai Pyaz
Onions are a common ingredient known for enhancing flavors and thickening gravies in various dishes. However, have you ever tried 'Malai Pyaz' (Creamy Onion Curry)? This dish, featuring a luscious, creamy sauce paired with the gentle sweetness of onions, is so delectable that it may overshadow even the beloved 'Malai Kofta'.
How to Make Malai Pyaz
Creating 'Malai Pyaz' is straightforward and requires only a handful of ingredients. Here’s how to prepare it:
Ingredients
5–6 small onions
1/2 cup malai (cream)
2 green chilies, finely chopped
2–3 tablespoons fresh coriander, finely chopped
2 bay leaves
1 pinch asafoetida (hing)
1 tablespoon oil
1-inch piece of ginger, grated
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves)
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
Salt to taste
Preparation Steps
Begin by peeling the onions. Heat a pan on the stove and add 1 tablespoon of oil.
In the heated oil, add cumin seeds, a pinch of asafoetida, bay leaves, chopped green chilies, and grated ginger, then sauté.
Next, incorporate turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and coriander powder, mixing thoroughly. Allow the spices to cook on low heat for about 2 minutes.
Once the spices start releasing oil, stir in the 1/2 cup of malai (cream). Let the mixture simmer on low heat until it reaches a boil. Finally, add kasuri methi and mix well. At this stage, add the peeled onions and combine everything.
Cover the pan and let it cook on low heat for a minimum of 10 minutes. If desired, you can slice the onions lengthwise before adding them.
Check if the onions have softened. If the gravy appears too thick, feel free to add a splash of milk.
For the finishing touch, add 1 teaspoon of coriander powder and mix it in.
Your delightful, creamy 'Malai Pyaz' is now ready to be served.
