Concerns Over LPG Shortages Impact Wedding Plans

Astrologers and Wedding Preparations Amid LPG Crisis

Astrologer Sidhharrth S Kumaar typically advises clients on wedding dates based on planetary positions and compatibility. However, recently, he has noticed a shift in inquiries. Instead of just seeking auspicious wedding dates, many are now concerned about the availability of LPG and how it might affect their plans. Kumaar, who leads NumroVani, has received numerous messages from clients and social media users questioning whether they should stick to their original wedding dates or make alternative arrangements due to potential LPG shortages. The financial implications of changing wedding plans at the last minute are daunting, especially with the wedding season already in full swing.

Currently, the Hindu calendar observes Kharmas, a month when weddings are traditionally avoided. The next favorable dates for weddings will not arrive until mid-April, with limited options available. As families navigate this tight schedule, the uncertainty surrounding cooking fuel is causing significant anxiety. A recent post on social media highlighted this issue, where a bride's family was unexpectedly asked by caterers to provide their own LPG cylinders due to supply issues, adding stress to an already hectic planning phase.

This post resonated with many, as others shared similar experiences of caterers warning them about uncertain LPG supplies, leading families to scramble for backup cylinders for their upcoming events. With several auspicious dates approaching, caterers are increasingly anxious about securing enough fuel for large gatherings.

Caterers Facing Challenges

Caterers Already Feeling The Strain

Smaller catering businesses are already feeling the impact of the LPG crisis. In Noida, Suresh Chandar, a caterer who typically manages modest weddings and gatherings, has halted new bookings. He expressed frustration, stating, "We are not receiving cylinders from suppliers, so we are unable to work." Without a reliable fuel supply, Chandar finds it impossible to operate his catering service. He mentioned that he would consider working if clients could provide their own LPG cylinders.

For many small caterers, weddings and community events are crucial for their livelihood. Even a brief disruption can have significant financial repercussions. Mid-level caterers in the Delhi NCR region are approaching the situation with caution. One caterer mentioned that he is only accepting bookings for events scheduled within the next 10 to 12 days, as he currently has enough backup cylinders. However, he expressed concern about the upcoming month of April, which is typically busy for weddings.

Industry Monitoring the LPG Situation

Industry Watching The Situation Closely

The wedding industry, heavily reliant on catering services, is closely monitoring the LPG situation. Anand Shahani, co-founder and CEO of a leading wedding planning platform, noted that while March weddings have not yet been affected, there is growing concern for events scheduled in April and beyond. Catering operations usually require multiple LPG cylinders for each wedding, and any disruption could lead to complications.

Shahani explained that for larger catering orders, the cost of LPG might add around ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 to the overall expense, which could either be absorbed by the caterer or passed on to clients. However, the uncertainty surrounding LPG availability is the primary concern. If the situation deteriorates, the black market may become the only option for caterers, and there could be increased pressure from authorities on those without alternative cooking methods.

While the wedding industry continues to operate normally for now, there is a palpable sense of unease. As families prepare for upcoming ceremonies, the question of whether there will be enough fuel to cook the wedding feast is becoming a pressing concern.
