Colonel Chandaok's Home: A Unique Mini Museum of Art and Memories
A Personal Museum of Creativity
Retired Colonel Jaspal Singh Chandaok has turned his residence into an enchanting mini museum, showcasing a collection that reflects his lifelong interests. This exhibition features hand-carved driftwood sculptures, photographs, portraits, and treasured souvenirs gathered from years of exploration.
Despite lacking formal training, Col. Chandaok is a self-taught artist whose creativity spans various mediums, revealing his passions for art, woodcraft, travel, music, and portrait-making.
The first room of the museum showcases ten meticulously crafted driftwood pieces that highlight his imaginative flair. Among these, a striking dinosaur sculpture stands out, characterized by its robust legs and prominent jaw—this is his largest and most labor-intensive work. The room also features several unique lamps that harmoniously combine aesthetics with functionality.
Col. Chandaok's interest in driftwood emerged after he recognized its artistic possibilities. He handpicks each piece of wood and the materials that accompany them.
Other remarkable sculptures include 'Alien,' a conceptual piece hinting at the potential arrival of extraterrestrial life; 'Dancer,' which elegantly balances on its knees; 'Dragon,' and 'Scarecrow.' Additionally, a sculpture inspired by his passion for golf captures the grace and precision of a golfer in mid-swing.
In the living area, guests can embark on a global journey through over 250 souvenirs collected from his travels to 35 countries across 17 international trips. Each item is paired with photo albums that include captions, providing a rich narrative of his adventures. His most recent trip abroad was to Uzbekistan in 2019. A strong advocate for DIY art, Col. Chandaok also created a representation of Niagara Falls using recycled materials. This concludes the tour of his unique collection.
