Hariyali Teej 2026: The festival will take place on Saturday, August 15. This celebration occurs on the third day (Tritiya) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) in the month of Shravan, marking the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. On this day, married women engage in fasting—either *Nirjala* (without water) or *Phalahar* (only fruits)—to pray for their husbands' health and a joyful married life.
Unmarried women also fast, wishing to attract a partner of their choice. Devoutly worshipping Shiva and Parvati is believed to enhance love and harmony in married life. It is crucial for women observing the fast for the first time to grasp the proper worship rituals.
**Fasting Rituals for Hariyali Teej**
On the day of Hariyali Teej, women should rise before dawn, take a bath, and don clean attire. They should prepare for worship and mentally commit to the fast.
A tradition involves sending *Sindhara* (gifts) from the maternal home to the daughter for Teej, which includes clothing, bangles, sweets, *mehndi* (henna), and items for *Shringar* (traditional adornment). Wearing clothes sent from the maternal home is considered auspicious. Green symbolizes prosperity and nature, leading many to wear green sarees or outfits during the festival.
Women embellish themselves with *Solah Shringar* (sixteen traditional adornments) on this day, which is linked to marital happiness and good fortune. During the auspicious time, worship should be directed towards Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Ganesha. Offerings of *Shringar* items are made to Goddess Parvati, while Lord Shiva receives water, *Belpatra* (wood apple leaves), flowers, and other ritual items.
Listening to or reciting the Hariyali Teej *Vrat Katha* (the story related to the fast) during worship is also deemed significant. In many households, women present clothing and *Suhag* items (symbols of marital happiness) to their mothers-in-law, seeking their blessings.
Women celebrate Hariyali Teej together with music and songs, partake in swinging on *jhulas* (swings), and apply *mehndi* on their hands. The fast concludes (*Paran*) according to family customs.
