Chaitra Navratri 2026 Day 5: Devotion to Goddess Skandamata

Today marks the fifth day of Chaitra Navratri, dedicated to Goddess Skandamata. This form of Goddess Durga is revered for her nurturing love, strength, and the promise of liberation for her followers. As the mother of Lord Kartikeya, she is affectionately called Skandamata. Devotees who worship her are blessed with the joy of children and spiritual enlightenment.

Understanding the Significance of Skandamata's Appearance
Skandamata is depicted seated on a lotus, earning her the title of *Padmasana* (the Lotus-Seated One). She is portrayed with four arms, with Lord Skanda resting in her lap. In her lower right hand, she holds a lotus flower. Devotees believe that worshipping Skandamata alleviates their hardships and grants them the happiness of parenthood.

Rituals for Day 5 Worship
Begin your day early with a bath.
Dress in red or yellow attire.
Place the idol or image of the Goddess in your worship area.
While holding flowers and *Akshat* (unbroken rice), make a solemn vow (*Sankalp*) to fast or perform the rituals.
Purify the idol of Mother Skandamata with holy Ganges water.
Present a *Chunari* (sacred veil), *Roli* (red powder), *Kumkum* (vermilion), *Akshat*, incense, a lit lamp (*Deep*), fragrances, and the sixteen adornments (*Solah Shringar*) to the Goddess.

Skandamata has a special fondness for yellow flowers, especially lotuses, so offering her a lotus or other yellow blooms is recommended.
Additionally, bananas and homemade sweets should be offered as *Bhog* (sacred food).

Recite mantras dedicated to the Goddess and conclude with the *Durga Saptashati*.

Perform the *Aarti* (lamp ceremony) for Skandamata and share the *Prasad* (blessed food) with all attendees.

Finally, seek forgiveness for any mistakes made during the worship.
