Bollywood Faces New Drama as Ranveer Singh Exits 'Don 3'
Bollywood's Latest Controversy: Ranveer Singh's Departure from 'Don 3'
The Bollywood scene is currently experiencing fresh turmoil following the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) announcing a non-cooperation stance against Ranveer Singh. This decision comes in light of Singh's unexpected withdrawal from the film 'Don 3', intensifying the ongoing conflict between him and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar.
This incident arises just months after the success of Singh’s action-packed film 'Dhurandhar', which had significantly boosted his box office appeal and solidified his position in the industry. However, his exit from 'Don 3' has escalated into one of the most significant disputes in Bollywood.
On Monday, FWICE declared that its membership of over four lakh would not collaborate with Singh, citing his failure to attend discussions regarding his exit from the film despite multiple reminders. The Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) had referred the issue to FWICE after complaints from Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani.
The third installment of the 'Don' series had been in the works for nearly three years, with Singh set to lead the project. Producers revealed that over Rs 45 crore had already been invested in pre-production before Singh's sudden departure just weeks before filming was set to commence.
FWICE chief advisor Ashoke Pandit claimed that Singh pulled out of the film only three weeks prior to the start date. Pandit noted that Singh later communicated via email that FWICE was not relevant to the dispute.
In a statement from his spokesperson, Singh expressed his ongoing respect for everyone involved with the franchise and emphasized that professional disagreements should be approached with dignity and mutual respect.
The statement highlighted that Singh has chosen to remain silent amid the unfolding situation, believing that personal relationships and professional matters should be handled with care. He is now concentrating on his future projects.
The fallout has ignited a flurry of discussions on social media, with fans and industry experts speculating about the reasons behind Singh's exit. Unverified reports suggest that ongoing script revisions, casting changes, and creative differences may have influenced his decision.
This dispute casts uncertainty over one of Bollywood's most eagerly awaited franchise revivals, even as Singh prepares for upcoming roles, including the zombie thriller 'Pralay', which will mark his debut as a producer.
Spiritual Visit to Chamundi Hills
On Tuesday, Ranveer Singh visited the Chamundeshwari temple in Mysuru to offer prayers. This visit follows a directive from the Karnataka High Court, which recently dismissed legal proceedings against him related to his mimicry of the deity's portrayal in the film 'Kantara 1'. The court's ruling came after Singh issued an unconditional apology, and it accepted a revised affidavit from his lawyer, instructing him to visit the Chamundi deity to make amends for his actions. This controversy stemmed from comments made by Singh during the Filmfare Awards in Goa regarding the film 'Kantara'.
