A New Emotional Journey Begins

Following the success of Oh My God 2, filmmaker Amit Rai is back with a touching narrative titled Ohh My Dog, which honors one of the most genuine relationships known to humanity: the connection between people and their canine companions.

The Essence of Unconditional Love

Amit Rai, who is responsible for writing, directing, and producing the film, draws inspiration from the profound love that dogs provide without any expectations. He shares, "I aimed to convey the unconditional love that dogs offer. To do this, a story was essential, and thus, it was created."

Emotional Roots in Real Experiences

Although Ohh My Dog is not based on a single real-life event, Amit emphasizes that the emotions depicted are derived from genuine experiences. "The narrative isn't inspired by one specific incident, but the love portrayed is rooted in reality," he clarifies. As a dog enthusiast, Amit's own pet, Oscar, has significantly influenced his connection to the film, alongside another dog character named Bruno, who are both central to the story.

A Talented Cast and Unique Challenges

The film boasts a talented cast, including Pankaj Tripathi and Pawan Malhotra. Amit reflects on the shooting experience, stating, "Working with such skilled actors made my job much easier." He admits, however, that he had never filmed with dogs before. When asked if they posed any challenges, he humorously replied, "Not at all. They did everything; I hardly had to intervene."

A Different Perspective on Animal Stories

While Hindi cinema has previously explored emotional narratives involving animals, Amit believes that Ohh My Dog offers a fresh perspective. "I crafted a story centered on love," he explains. The film also serves as a commentary on how humans treat the animals that have been loyal companions throughout history. "They have been with us since birth, always following their dharma. Our treatment of them is integral to the film's narrative," he adds.

From Small-Town Dreams to the Big Screen

Amit Rai's passion for filmmaking has been a lifelong journey. Growing up in Kalyan, he was introduced to cinema at home. "In those days, we watched films on VCRs. I loved watching them and eventually started creating my own," he recalls. His path has not been without challenges; despite studying science and earning a degree in computer science followed by a master's in arts, his heart remained with storytelling. "My debut film, Road to Sangam, was released in 2009. I had to wait 14 years for my next project (OMG 2)," he shares.

The Emotional Impact of 'Dear Jassi'

Amit, who began as a writer, co-wrote Dear Jassi, a project that left a lasting impression on him. He penned the film during the pandemic while staying in a hotel, feeling a deep emotional connection to the story. "It felt as if someone was whispering to me that their story had been silenced for too long, and I could help amplify their voice," he explains. Amit believes the narrative itself guided him through the process. "When the film was complete, I revisited that room and felt as if the girl was sharing her story with the world," he adds.

An Old-School Approach to Writing

Despite the evolving landscape of filmmaking, Amit prefers traditional methods for writing. When asked if he uses a computer or phone, he chuckles, saying, "I’m old-fashioned. I write with pen and paper." For him, writing is a continuous process. "I’m always jotting down ideas; there’s always something on my mind," he states.

A Connection to Chandigarh

Amit has a fond relationship with Chandigarh, having visited the city multiple times for work. "I’ve been to Chandigarh four times, and I love it here," he shares, hinting that his next project might be filmed in the city.

The Heart of 'Ohh My Dog'

With Ohh My Dog, Amit Rai aspires for audiences to feel the profound yet simple emotion that lies at the film's core—the love of a loyal companion who is always by your side.

Release Date

Ohh My Dog is set to hit theaters on July 31.

Amit Rai's Vision

Amit Rai expresses, "Ohh My Dog is not merely a film about a child and a dog; it emphasizes the importance of coexisting with all living beings with compassion. If viewers leave with a bit more kindness towards animals, I will feel that this film has truly fulfilled its purpose."
