Wiaan Mulder Sets New Test Records with Historic 367 Runs Against Zimbabwe

Historic Achievement by Wiaan Mulder

On the second day of the second Test match against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, South Africa's captain Wiaan Mulder made headlines by scoring an impressive 367 runs. This remarkable feat marks the highest individual score by any player in an away Test match. With this performance, South Africa declared their first innings at a staggering 626/5, showcasing Mulder's selflessness as he opted not to pursue Brian Lara's record of 400*.

Mulder's innings broke the long-standing record of 337 runs set by Hanif Mohammad for Pakistan against the West Indies in 1958. He also surpassed the scores of cricket legends like Wally Hammond (336*), Mark Taylor (334*), and Don Bradman (334).

This achievement stands as the highest score by a South African batsman in away Tests. Additionally, Mulder eclipsed Graeme Smith's previous record of 362 runs in a single Test match, with his 367* now being the most runs scored by a South African in a single Test innings.

Wiaan Mulder is now the second South African to score a triple century in Test cricket, following Hashim Amla, who scored 311 not out against England in 2012. Mulder reached his triple century in just 297 balls, making it the second-fastest in Test history, with only Virender Sehwag achieving the milestone quicker at 278 balls.

With this remarkable innings, Mulder joins an elite group of only seven players in cricket history to score 350 runs or more in a Test match. South Africa decided to declare their innings shortly after Mulder reached 367*, solidifying his place in cricket history as the holder of the highest Test score by a touring player.
